4 – NASA’s Costly Maths Error
The Mars Climate Orbiter cost the folks at NASA somewhere in the region of $125 million over the course of a few years. Unfortunately, a simple maths error led to the orbiter being destroyed in the atmosphere over Mars. While most calculations were made in metric measurements, one was mistakenly made in feet and inches which resulted in the orbiter travelling far too close to the planet’s atmosphere
