5 – Ford’s Edsel Flop
More often than not, Ford doesn’t tent to put a foot wrong when it comes to new concept vehicles. But this certainly hasn’t always been the case, as proved back in 1957 when they decided to work on a new model called the Edsel. They invested £160 million in the project at the time, which would work out as about £640 million by today’s standards. With the model having proved to be a total and immediate flop, it was withdrawn from sale and production stopped after just two years.
