Six Reasons to Log Off and Head Out to Las Vegas

Ok admittedly, packing your bags and heading all the way over to the west coast of the United States isn’t something most people can do on a whim. If you can…well, consider yourself one of the lucky ones! For everyone else, it’s a case of constantly searching for every excuse possible to justify these kinds of trips.

And that’s exactly what we thought we’d provide you with today. If you’ve been hankering after a slice of The Strip’s best action for years but haven’t yet taken the plunge, we’re here to throw a little additional fuel on the fire. Of course, it’s not as if you need anyone to tell you how fantastic Las Vegas is as a global gambling hotspot. But even away from the crowded and chaotic casino floors, there’s still so much to do and so many epic reasons to check out this undeniably epic city.

Whether it’s you yourself who needs a little more convincing or those you plan to take along for the ride, it can’t hurt to arm yourself with a few additional arguments that work entirely in your favour.

So without further delay, read on for a select handful of just a few of our favourite excuses for logging off and heading out to the action in Las Vegas for real:

1. Cheap Hotel Rates during the Week

First and foremost, there really aren’t many tourist destinations in the United States that offer such cheap hotel accommodation during the week. And not the kind of a cheap accommodation that’s thoroughly unpleasant, either.

Let’s put it this way. Head out to New York City for a midweek stay in a four-star hotel and you are looking at somewhere in the region of around $400 per night. A little further to the north, you would be looking at somewhere between $300 and $400 per night for a similar hotel in Boston. Over in Las Vegas however, spectacular four-star hotels go for as little as $60 per night. Plus this $60 bargain doesn’t mean being crammed into a cupboard with absolutely no amenities on offer whatsoever.

Which in turn means that four or five nights avoiding the Friday and Saturday premiums could set you back no more than $300. Less than you’d pay for a single night in a comparable city of this kind of calibre.

2. Free Drinks

Just to get one thing straight, you don’t have to drink to excess to get a real kick out of the free drinks on offer all across Las Vegas. Head to any of the casinos and just as long as you stick around for an hour or two, chances are you will be handed any number of free drinks. Hand over a tip or two that’s not painfully frugal and chances are the waiter or waitress will ensure that your glass stays topped up for the whole night.

And it isn’t a scam to trick you into paying more in tips, either. Hand over $5 or so for your first drink and feel free to scale this back to just $1 or $2 for each subsequent drink. Bearing in mind that you would be expected to tip the bartender anywhere else anyway, this constitutes 100% free drinks for the duration of your stay. You’ll of course have to indulge in a fair amount of gaming, but still – that is what you came to Las Vegas for, right?

3. Shows

The shows in Las Vegas are, quite frankly, the best and most varied you will find anywhere in the world. It doesn’t matter what you are into or what time of year you decide to visit, everything you could ever wish for is right there on your doorstep. From the most legendary singers on the face of the earth to incredible magicians to circuses and so on, it’s hard to get across the scale of the scene in this one not-so-humble city.

What’s more, if you don’t want to spend good money on going to see these kinds of world class performers, ‘artists’ of various persuasions are almost always performing at the hotels and casinos themselves. From the dodgiest Elvis impersonators you’ve ever seen to some of the best live bands and comedians you’ve never heard of, there is more entertainment than you would need in the course of 10 lifetimes.

4.  The Outdoor Spectacle

Unless you spend at least a month doing exactly the same thing every single night, you will never grow tired of the evening spectacle that is Las Vegas.  Even by the end of an extended trip, that final walk to see the fountains at the Bellagio will still blow you away like it did the very first time. It’s often said that you don’t have to spend a penny to experience the best Las Vegas has to offer – there’s definitely some truth in this.

Just be warned of one thing – Las Vegas during the mornings and even much of the day times might not be as pretty as you expect. So be sure not to judge things by first impressions if you arrive during the day – wait for the sensory overload that comes after dark!

5. Cheap Food

If you’re more into gastronomic delights them gambling, there’s probably no better place in the world to head than Las Vegas. The reason being that not only do the city’s restaurants serve up some of the most outstanding food ever concocted, but also some of the cheapest. All over central Las Vegas, you’ll find a world of extraordinary buffets and all-you-can-eat dining offers, ranging from $5 breakfasts up to $15-$50 steak and lobster extravaganzas.

Or to put it another way, you can eat like king for an entire day and still not spend nearly as much as the cost of an appetiser at a decent restaurant in New York City. So if food and frugality are your thing, Las Vegas is the place for you!

6. People Watching

Last but not least, it’s not until you find yourself on a crowded and noisy casino floor that you truly understand how enjoyable it can be to simply watch those around you do what they do. Especially if you happen to come across a high-roller on a winning streak – typically characterised by cheering crowds, free drinks for everyone and huge tips for the dealer.

Observe them from afar or get in on the action yourself – either way, good times are guaranteed. And it’s just as enjoyable to watch people do what they do outdoors, particularly in the early hours of the morning when the daily ‘walk of shame’ back to the hotel begins!
